This weather is reminding me of how much I miss warm weather and my vacation at Cumberland Island this summer. I love tropical landscapes and the colors that come with them. These sunsets were amazing!

I had to show both color and black and white for this photoshoot because I love how the black and whites turned out!
I've only lived a few weeks of my life without Olivia and I don't know where I'd be without her. She is so encouraging of me and always willing to listen. We've seen each other go through every step of life and I cannot wait to see her marry Bryce next Summer! Love you Olivia. Thank you for being a great cousin and friend! I'm so glad that you chose me to take your engagement photos!
On New Year's Eve we were determined to get out of the house and do something. We saw that there were a few concerts going on in Athens and we decided to check out the 40 Watt Club. I had been to the 40 Watt about two years ago and we saw a really small band. This time around, the band Yip Deceiver was playing(the first set of photos). Their set was energetic, upbeat, and it made the whole crowd start to nodd there head along. I love when you can see a band that you don't know any of their songs but you still end up tapping your foot along. The whole crowd was there for of Montreal, a more popular band native to Athens. The lead singer has a stage presence that is undescribable. You can tell that he really enjoys what he does and the crowd sang every word to all of their songs. of Montreal was so much fun to photograph and there was never a dull moment! They stopped playing to count down to the New Year, shot off confetti canons, and continued to play. This concert was a great way to start off 2017 which I hope will be filled with more weird concerts and photos! See you soon with another blog post!
-Love, Ashley In December, I took a break from studying for finals, making millions of mugs in the pottery studio, and carving linolium to see the band, Mothers, at the Caledonia Lounge. I learned that the lead singer majored in Printmaking at UGA and I was taking my first printmaking class at UGA at the time. It's so cool to see someone who used to be working in the same classroom as me up on a stage creating something that is bringing a whole room of people together. People were swaying and singing along to her art. It's so inspiring to me and I always find it interesting when someone does multiple creative things. I love to look at their work and see how they are connected. This band has found a way to beautifully describe some of the sadness and truths of life in an intersting way. I really enjoyed their set and photographing them. It was hard to move around and get different shots in the Caledonia Lounge because the room was so full but I managed to get a few great shots. I hope you enjoy these photos and I'll be posting some more concert photos soon!
-Love, Ashley I love photographing people who aren't afraid to try different poses I suggest and they want photos that are unique. Working with musicians or visual artists is so much fun becuase of their input and willingness to go with the flow of the photoshoot. With this photoshoot, I wanted to challenge myself to try a few new techniques. The first photo is a classic black and white that I'm obsessed with. The next photo, I had the subject lay on the ground while I stood on a stool trying to get a unique angle and capture unique floor tiles. For the third, I found a spotlight that has different colored lenses and we found an old walk in freezer that was really dark. For the next photo, I had an old projector and an old camcorder laying around that I put together. I found that if you point the camera at the projector while connected you get repetative imagery. For the next photo, I opened the shutter speed for fifteen seconds and had the subject gradually move every few seconds, I really like the ghostly feel to this one. The next photo, in the words of Bob Ross was a "happy accident". We took so long taking photos in doors that it was getting dark and the sky turned a beautiful blue to pink gradient. The next photos are close ups of the subject while sitting on a hay bail and the angles are unique to how I usually angle portraits. They are more looking up to the subject. For this very last photo, I used an old speedlight from the 80s that my dad used to use. I had never really done a lot of flash photography. I noticed in magazines and other musician photos that they used overexposed flash looks so I wanted to give that a try. I really like the feel of the old wood paneling and the wood grain on guitar and I think the flash gives it a crisp look too. I learned so much from this photoshoot and I can't wait to learn even more new creative photography techniques! Thanks for checking out my blog!
-Love, Ashley I brought my camera to lunch with my family at my Grandparent's house. These photos make me really sad because my Paw Paw passed away two summers ago. It feels so recent and it's still hard for all of us. I've been visiting this house my whole life and it feels so different. This cat was one of the neighborhood stray cats and was scared of everyone and everything but my Paw Paw. The cat would climb up in his lap and let my Paw Paw pet him. After my Paw Paw passed away this cat would sit at the door and look inside the house for my Paw Paw. I think he still looks for him.
